McAllen Bass Anglers
Purpose: To enjoy bass fishing while improving our skills as bass anglers, through a fellowship of friendly exchange of bass-catching techniques and ideas.
Tournaments: We have 12 monthly tournaments per year. They are usually one day tournaments, on Saturdays . In the past, we have fished other South Texas lakes, but due to low water conditions, our tournament locations are currently held at Falcon Lake and the Rio Grande. Tournaments are either “individual” or “team”. We practice “catch and release”.
Pairings: An effort will be made to pair non-boaters with boaters during tournaments. However, it cannot be guaranteed that there will be a boat available every time, as it depends on the ratio of boaters to non-boaters.
Fees: Although we are fishing “for fun and fellowship”, there is also a competitive aspect. There is a tournament fee of $25 for each tournament fished. $5 of the money goes into the club treasury, which is used for club expenses. The remaining $20 goes into the heavy stringer/big fish jackpots. Some years the Top Six anglers are entered into the TABC or other statewide Top Six tournaments. Any remaining monies are paid out to the Top Six anglers at the end of the year. The Top Six team is determined by points earned during each of our tournaments and for attending meetings.
Other costs: Non-boaters are also normally expected to pay ½ the operating expenses of each fishing trip (gas/oil for boat, tow vehicle, launch or park entrance fees, motel room, if applicable) Normally ½ the expenses run about $20 – $50, per trip, depending on the distance traveled.
Dues: $50 per year, or $5/month if joining after the January meeting.
Meetings are held the 1st Wednesday of every month at 7:30 p.m.
Membership: Express a genuine interest in bass fishing and be recommended by a club member. An applicant must first fish with a member and then be voted in at a regular monthly meeting. The club will not discriminate on any basis be it race, religion, or national origin.
